  • Whole Monk fruit is a small, green gourd that resembles a melon. It is cultivated in Southeast Asia and was first used by Buddhist monks in the 13th century, hence the fruit’s curious name. Although the plant itself is unappealing, the extract from Monk fruit is roughly 200 times sweeter than sugar and yet contains zero calories, zero carbohydrates and zero fat. Monk fruit also doesn’t impact blood sugar levels, and unlike some sweeteners, there’s no evidence to date showing that monk fruit has negative side effects.
